My sister, who has been addicted to heroin, really has to get herself treated. I have read stuff about methadone being addictive too. I’m just worried that my sister might get addicted to this too. Are there any other available treatments that are less risky?

As far as I know, there are some drug treatment programs that use buprenorphine instead of methadone. This is considered as less addictive and is administered at less dosages than methadone. In finding drug rehabs, you can check out the links that I have provided below.
Are There Free Drug Rehab Facilities/programs in Georgia?
Question by holli08: Are there free drug rehab facilities/programs in Georgia?
My dad seems to be addicted to Xanax. He is currently in jail for a couple of things that happened last week after taking 12 Xanax in a day (we believe). I believe that he is probably taking other drugs as well. I don’t know a lot about Xanax abuse, but he goes into these fits of rage and does and says things he would never do in his right mind and then later swears he didn’t do them. We are all very worried about him. He is also epileptic and had 3 seizures about 4 months ago and almost died. He had another seizure while in jail 2 days ago. I really want him to go into a treatment facility, but he has no insurance. His lawyer says that if we can find one that is free that he can get a court order for him to go to it. This whole situation is so stressful.

There is an advantage to including on-site medical care in a Drug Rehab. Physicians and nurses provide 24-hour hospital services to monitor and ensure a safe withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs. In addition, a medical staff specializing in addiction medicine can oversee the progress of each individual and make necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.

Does It Make More Sense to Put CHEMICALLY ADDICTED People in PRISON for POSSESSION or in REHAB?
Question by Bush is not conservative: Does it make more sense to put CHEMICALLY ADDICTED people in PRISON for POSSESSION or in REHAB?
Addiction is an illness. Narcotics abuse is an illness. Logically, the purchasing, possession and abuse of a drug by an addict is as much of a health concern as it is a legal one.
Narcotics abuse is undoubtedly a more emotionally complicated crime than other nonviolent offenses such as theft and vandalism, but early attempts to curb abuse lacked the necessary breadth to get addicts clean. Incarceration is not an effective method of freeing drug users from the substances on which they depend.
