Are the Curfew Laws Protecting Chicagoland Children?

Question by goten60629: Are the Curfew Laws Protecting Chicagoland Children?
As you all know the City of Chicago enforced a new
curfew several months ago in an attempt to protect
children from being caught in gang cross fire and
other crimes on the streets of Chicago. At that time
some children’s right advocates and sociologists
argues that changing the curfew laws will not prevent
children from being gunned down on the streets at the
hands of other children and young adults. Advocates
further argue that the mayor and other public officials
are overlooking the social problems that are encouraging
this behavior; such as unemployment, poverty, teen parenting,
gang warfare, drug and alcohol abuse and low literacy rates.
Since the enforcement of the new curfew law 35 plus CPS
students and other young adults has been gunned down on
the streets of Chicago, including three teens that were
gunned down in the past two weeks. However, the major
continues to argue that despite the shootings, the curfew
law is indeed working. For this you must take a side. Do
you feel that the curfew law is indeed keeping Chicago’s
children safe, despite the recent rash of killings of children
over the past few weeks, or are social scientists correct
when they argue that curfew laws will not solve the war
that has been raged against children in the inner city?

Can I Discipline an Employee in Illinois About Making a Drug-Related Joke to Another Employee?

Question by the_rising_goddess: Can I discipline an employee in Illinois about making a drug-related joke to another employee?
I have hired a temp using an agency that I have worked with before. The temp does a supposedly wonderful job handling her duties, but I believe she is socially inept. I hear employees telling each other about how the temp reveals more information about herself than is appropriate in a professional setting. This, the third tale I’ve heard, has her admitting to another employee that she used to be a recovering drug addict, but now she smoked crack on Saturday. That is horrible! Should I can her and hope I could find another temp to do a good job, or should I just advise her to keep her mouth shut, not having to worry about training another person?

What Can I Do if the Police Department Does Not Want to Help Me?

Question by : What can I do if the police department does not want to help me?
I apologize, this is a long complicated story…..
My fiancee was at his friends house the other day and his friends neighbor came out of the house and started yelling profanities trying to fight them. The neighbor is a complete stranger to my fiancee and the issue was completely unprovoked. From what I understand the guy has severe mental health and drug addiction issues. My fiancee is recovering from an injury and can’t protect himself if this guy tries to attack. My fiancee just decided to leave and the guy got into his car and began to try to follow him. My fiancee started circling blocks to lose him and the guy tried running him off the road and swerving his car into ours. My fiancee stopped at a gas station to call the police and the guy got out of the car and started banging on our window, and then went back to his car and slammed his head against the hood. When the police showed up he tried to say my fiancee hit him, however witnesses at the gas station were able to testify that the guy smacked his own head against his car. The cops wrote a police report and let him go. Shortly after the guy showed back up behind my fiancee on the road and started honking his horn, trying to run him off the road, and screaming out the window for him to pull over. The police were called again and my fiancee pulled over to wait for the cops. When they showed up again they made another report and stated that if they were called again they would arrest both my fiancee and the guy. At this point they followed my fiancee most of the way home to make sure he would not be followed again. For the past few days this guy will somehow find us out on the road and do the same thing: try to run us off the road, follow us around, scream at us in public and try to get my fiancee to fight him. We stopped at the police department and they have told us that they would arrest him, however they have made no attempt to. The neighborhood that this guy lives in has had a long history of problems with this guy for doing similar things and the police department has done nothing. Now we are trying to get copies of the police reports and the police department refuses to give them to us. What can we do to protect ourselves when the police department refuses to do anything to help us out. Oh yes, and the police department has warned us that this guy has a collection of registered guns that we should watch out for. I am wondering if the guy (who is 25 and lives with his parents) has connections to the police department through his dad because like I said there is a long history of problems with this guy and NOTHING has been done about him. I am a nurse and I can’t have this guy follow me to work, and my fiancee is recovering from an injury and can’t protect himself if this guy finds out where we live and attacks him. I know this sounds bizarre, and it surely is, but the incident was 100% unprovoked. This guy is a stranger to us, we are new to this area. We are in Illinois and the Evergreen Park Police Department are the one’s supposedly “handling” the situation. We are scared to contact them at this point because we don’t need to get arrested for asking for their help, but we can’t allow this to continue. WHAT CAN WE DO?
