I am writing an essay on substance (alcohol and drug) abuse. I need to answer the question:
How do you resist the influence and what steps could you take to prevent another from using alcohol or drugs?

I have a few ideas already :
steps:
Say NO. Practice saying no beforehand
Only hang out with those who don’t drink or use drugs
Avoid relationships with those older than you
realize that they dont make you “cool”

Can someone point me in the right direction? I’d like to work at a rehab center somewhere in California or just be a counselor for people, especially teens, that abuse drugs. I’m only going to be a sophomore in high school in the fall, but I’d like to know what to aim for. Can anyone tell me about this field of work?

Overprotective parents try and monitor all aspects of their children’s lives. But that’s not possible.
It would make sense that teenagers with overprotective parents would try to rebel when their parents aren’t around. A way of rebelling would be taking drugs and smoking and drinking.
Are there any statistics, reports, or studies anywhere that would suggest a link between overprotective parents and substance abuse? Thanks!

While the kids are at home, they’re extremely UNLIKELY to abuse substances, or even try them out.
