Drug Addiction & Prison Sentences?

Question by Free Thinker: Drug addiction & prison sentences?
There is a young man that I know who has been addicted to crack cocaine for a long time. He went to prison nearly 4 years ago, was just released to a work release program then with the intense pressure put on him to obtain employment under very stringent regulations and in a very depressed economy along with the fact that his mother is dying a very horrible death, he requested to be sent back to his previous facility to serve the remainder of his sentence. That request was rejected, 2 days later he obtained crack and got high out of desperation. He was caught and sent back to prison. Now the dept of corrections wants to charge him with up to 15 years for possession on a correctional facility.
He is in solitary confinement for 150 days which in my opinion is cruel and unusual punishment.

How Can I Console Somebody Recovering From Drug Addiction?

Question by Bela: How can I console somebody recovering from drug addiction?
I have a suitemate who is moving out because of her drug addiction. Her mom has been living here for the past week, and it has been quite an emotional experience. There have been many tears, and many prayers. I was not really close with her (my suitemate) until these past few weeks. I really want to write her a letter reassuring her that everything will be okay. Any suggestions?

Why Do People Want Marijuana Legalized?

Question by Jacob S: Why do people want marijuana legalized?
I don’t understand this at all. Who could want this stuff legalized? Marijuana smokers are 6 times more likely to get lung cancer than tobacco smokers, and marijuana is highly addictive (look at the statistics, more teens are in treatment for marijuana addiction that all other drugs combined). According to studies done by Dr. Gabriel G. Nahas, marijuana can cause irreversible brain damage and destroys brain cells. Why would anyone want this horrible narcotic to be legal?

No, he will be bound by the patient – client secrecy, but he would be a very bad professional not to do his best to convince the minor to enter some kind of out-patient treatment program.
