There are may different sociological perspectives:
1. Functionalism: how do the social institutions eg of health, law and education and the cutural values values and norms about alcohol and drug addictions secure the boundaries of our values about what is acceptable and what is devant. How do aspects of the way we define these norms function as balancing and mantanence system for soceity
2 Interractionism: how at the micro level do we label peope as deviant drug takers . whate are the secondary effects of the process of labelling. How do these labels then affect the lives of those labelled. How do people learn the rules of a drug culture
3. Conflict Theory: Who has the power to define drug taking as deviance. Who benefits from this form of power and who is disadvantaged?
